I went out to Elevenmile Canyon today for late winter fishing today. It’s funny how a five hour trip after a month and a half off the water can renew your personal love for fly fishing. I followed up today with some Sunday night fly tying. Being off the water for so many weekends left me a bit frustrated in how bare my fly boxes had become.
The fishing wasn’t great by any stretch of the imagination, even my own. I don’t know what is worse, getting skunked or missing ten fish. There may have been some “adult” language around fish six or seven. I started the day off quickly taking a fourteen inch Rainbow, followed up with miss after miss. I guess the good thing was that two of the people that met my dad and I up there hadn’t gotten in to any fish themselves, from what I observed. Of course, I got the usual response from my father that he nabbed “quite a few” upstream, around the bend and naturally out of my line of sight. Funny how that works out. The problem I faced was the stubborn nature of my fly selection and depleted fly box.
The day was not a total loss. I took a few great scenic pictures, which I’ll upload at some point this week. My primary focus this week is to get some stand patterns tied up for next weekend. I’d be a much happier person if I could get out on the river during the week. Or better yet, was on a two week fishing vacation.

I leave you with this….
